-Ms. Reinert is a member of the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic. Here is her account: City of 300,000. It's in the Cibao region of the country, and is surrounded by rice and cocoa farms mostly, but there are also lot of plantains, bananas, oranges, avacadoes, pigeon peas, pineapples, cherries, and mangoes.  I basically live in the fertile belt which rocks because I even get broccoli and cauliflower here. The people here are great though, very open and willing to help you out with anything.  You can always hear merengue or bachata (like a version of country) music playing at any corner store (called colmados).  Spanish is the language spoken in the DR.
